GoTiny Founders
Below is a bit of backstory and a blended biography for GoTiny’s founders, Thom and Midge Stanton.
Thom and Midge Stanton’s journey into the world of tiny homes is as inspiring as their designs.
Early Years & Careers
For the bulk of their 34 married years together, Thom and Midge have been partners in life and work, sharing a deep connection and a shared passion for creative endeavors. Their story began at VCU School of the Arts in Richmond, Virginia, where they first met then fell in love.
When Thom graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990, the couple embarked on their careers in marketing research, multimedia communications, and online advertising. Thom went on to hone his skills in brand design, web marketing, and CRM sales automation as Midge pursued her passion for personal training as fitness director at a local health club.
In 2012, the Stantons leap of faith led to their founding of Timber Trails & GoTiny to fully immerse themselves in small scale building design.
Tiny Industry Associations
This was a pivotal moment that set the Stantons on a path of design, discovery, and innovation exemplified by their strong desire to make a positive impact in the beleaguered housing industry. Thom’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a local meetup group, to propose tiny house-specific building codes, and to assume leadership positions in prominent tiny home associations.
The Stanton’s transition into the tiny house movement was ultimately driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to simplify building construction, providing housing solutions that are flexible, efficient, and affordable. They saw the potential to create something practical and tangible that could transform lives. It was a calling rooted in their love for practicality, a deep connection to nature, and a genuine desire to help others.
Throughout their journey, Thom and Midge have remained true to their friendly and fun-loving nature.
Globally Focused Future
While the Stantons’ empty nest led them to embrace tiny homes as a means of simplifying their lives and pursuing their passions, their dedication to the cause goes beyond personal fulfillment. The couple’s commitment to philanthropy remains sound as they firmly believe that everyone deserves a safe shelter, efficient building, and durable dwelling.
