What’s the Story?

In a nutshell: We’re adding a new building to an old building… to build a bigger building!

Living & Workspace Constraints

Living in a tiny house on wheels with less than 100 sqft. of floor area, our home doesn’t have space to hold more than the essentials for our day-to-day work-from-home lifestyle. We need a place to keep our larger primary woodworking tools for updating our tiny house on wheels, and other woodworking projects.

Since this is a temporary living scenario for us, and the 5’x5′ garden shed is already here, we plan to add this tool house to the back of the existing structure to house a miter saw station and place to tuck away other tools we need to keep close at hand, but out of the weather and ready to use.

Practical Design Practice

We created the hand-drawn artwork, 3D models, and plans to guide our DIY work for this open-air tool house project at our campground below the crest of the Blue Ridge in Floyd, Virginia.

This little shed and tool room combo should work well for us, and others too, so we expanded on our design to provide a skid-based option for a relocatable building.
